WHAT TO WEAR AT YOUR PHOTOSHOOT

As you lay out your clothing selection, remember that some clothes we love to wear might not necessarily photograph well. Here are a few tips to help you look your best:

INDIVIDUAL:

  • Choose clothing that represents your style and season.
  • Clothes that flatter your body type.
  • Research your skin type and hair color for warm, cool, or neutral tones. Colors impact your images.
  • Incorporate layers and texture such as jackets, sweaters, and scarves for more posing options.
  • Clothes that allow movement such as dresses to catch the wind or jackets for multiple poses opened and closed.

GROUPS:

  • The key component is coordination. Not so much “matchy match”, but a color palette that individuals can make their own using textures, styles, and accessories.

ACCESSORIES:

  • All things jewelry add visual interest. Think earrings, bracelets, watches, rings, necklaces.
  • Hats, sunglasses, belts, scarves, and handbags can help with more posing options if it fits the overall scheme.

BRING PROPS:

Purely optional, but they can add variety to your images. Are you in sports or play an instrument? Bring a piece of sporting equipment or instrument. Balloons and flowers are good choices too for themed sessions. Be sure to let me know ahead of time so we can come up with a great way to incorporate them into your session.

GLASSES:

If you wear them regularly, plan to wear them at your session. We can always shoot some pictures with and some without glasses. The one exception is TRANSITION lens. Ideally, not wearing them during the actual photo being taken is best. Another option is keeping the glasses in a case or other dark location until time to take your picture. This would give enough leeway getting a few images taken before your glasses turned dark. But if you prefer always wearing them and lightening up in post, there will be an additional retouching fee.
